5 things we learned about the Championship – week 2

1. Coming down doesn’t mean you’re stronger

You’d expect that a team relegated from what many say is the finest league in football in the English Premier League would be strong enough to go back up, wouldn’t you? Better players, not all who will desert the club, and backed by 3 years worth of parachute payments, you’d expect these to be among the strongest teams. You’d be wrong. This week the three relegated teams took three points between them from the nine available; this is in addition to taking only four points from the available nine last week on opening day. Put differently, from 18 available points, relegated teams have taken only 38.89% of available points (seven points from 18 available), not a great return. At the moment, Hull City find themselves as the best of the three relegated teams sitting in 4th place on 4 points with the others, Burnley and QPR, finding themselves in 12th and 19th places respectively.
