Much has been said of Leeds United’s policy of promoting youth from the Academy/Development squads and thrusting them into the the cut and thrust of first team action. Last season the Leeds United team contained four such players for the bulk of the season: Sam Byram, Alex Mowatt, Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor. All of this quartet have continued to feature in the opening games of this season, they will be augmented by another young addition in Kalvin Phillips. Phillips did feature towards the end of last season and scored one goal against Cardiff City in April.
Leeds fans have been pressing that Phillips be given a run, such is the esteem felt for him; Indeed, there were some questioning why he hadn’t been selected for the Doncaster loss on Thursday. However, with Lewis Cook’s enforced absence after Thursday’s sending off, head coach Uwe Rösler has placed his trust in the youngster. This bold selection has got Leeds fans on Twitter chatting and discussing the merits of selecting him.

Glad to see Rosler has the balls to bring in Phillips with Cook suspended. Youth is the future of #LUFC.

All things aside, the inclusion of Kalvin Phillips above more noted players such a Casper Sloth does show just how much he is valued in the eyes of the management at Elland Road and it is a move that is met with encouraging thoughts from Leeds United fans.
