Newcastle, Championship clubs on alert as Newcastle to sell five

Championship clubs on alert as Newcastle to sell five

According to a report by The Sun today, Newcastle are ready to let five players leave after telling them that their futures lie elsewhere.

Out of the five players set to be sold, Mike Williamson is perhaps the biggest name.  The central defender had been playing regularly for Newcastle since 2010 but now finds himself way down the pecking order under new boss Steve McClaren.

Williamson was yesterday reported to be interesting Brighton in the Championship but as of yet no approach has been made for the player.

Another big name, Yoan Gouffran has also been told he can leave.  The French player made a number of first team appearances last season but now doesn’t appear to be in Newcastle’s plans.  Gouffran, who played in France all his life until signing for Newcastle in 2013, may favor a move back to his homeland rather than into the Championship however.

Also available are lesser known players Mehdi Abeid, Gael Bigirimana and Haris Vuckic.  None of these players have been able to nail down their place in the first team at Newcastle and Championship moves for all three players could be a distinct possibility.

From the point of view of Newcastle, they are trying to clear some players out sooner rather than later, with transfer targets of their own they still wish to sign.
