Charlie Austin expected to start for QPR against Cardiff

Despite the constant transfer rumours linking Charlie Austin with a move away from Queens Park Rangers, boss Chris Ramsay expects his star man to line-up against Cardiff City on Saturday. Speaking to Get West London, Ramsay says although he has a slight hamstring problem, the former Swindon Town man should be available.

Austin, who is believed to be valued at £15million by his employers, suffered a minor tweak to his hamstring in the opening day defeat to Charlton Athletic. Subsequently he was rested for the midweek Capital One Cup tie versus Yeovil Town, yet Ramsay believes he’ll play a part,

“Charlie is available tomorrow, even though he had a slight tweak in his hamstring against Charlton. He’s trained hard.”

More promising news coming out of Loftus Road surrounding 26-year-old Austin is the possibility of a new contract. Chronicle Live recently reported how QPR have pushed for a new deal for their striker, looking to remove the possibility of him leaving for a cut-price in January. With just a year remaining on his contract, director of football Les Ferdinand insisted how the ball is in Austin’s court regarding what his future is. Nevertheless, Ramsay has an open mind,

“There have been talks about that (new contract). As regards a move, things happen at the last minute. It would be a surprise if he wasn’t thinking about it (a move away). The offers before that for him didn’t meet out criteria.”

With Jamie Mackie unavailable through injury, it is hoped Austin will don the famous blue and white hoops as they look to celebrate their first home game of the season with their first league win.
