Cotterill: We’re playing better than our results suggest

Bristol City may have lost two out of two so far this season but manager Steve Cotterill isn’t concerned with the manner of their performances. Speaking to the Bristol City official website, the former Portsmouth boss is looking forward to entertaining Brentford at a new-look Ashton Gate on Saturday.

The Robins have endured a very frustrating summer regarding transfer activity, with very few players coming in to improve the squad. The side which started the opening day loss at Sheffield Wednesday was largely the same one which guided them to an emphatic League One title last term. Nevertheless, Cotterill believes a win will kick-start their season,

“I’m more than happy with the way we’re playing. We’ve gone and dominated two games and it’s also happened in the past where we’ve done that and lost. If we can play as well as we have done in those two games and then hopefully that win won’t be too far around the corner”.

Looking ahead to the game itself, Cotterill doesn’t believe last seasons surprise package Brentford will have that same tag this time around,

“We have a good idea of their team. I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to predict them. If you make 11 changes in midweek (the 4-0 loss to Oxford United), you pretty much know there is 11 of them coming back in. The manager (Marinus Dijkhuizen) is still looking at them and getting the lads how he wants them to play”.

Hoping to make a comeback from injury is Joe Bryan following a knee injury sustained against Sheffield Wednesday. Number one Frank Fielding is out with a shoulder problem, meaning recent loan signing Ben Hamer will continue in goal.
