Injury to Blackpool goalkeeper not as serious as first thought

Blackpool may have some more promising injury news regarding their number one goalkeeper. The Blackpool Gazette writes how Colin Doyle could now be set to return within the next month, after original fears regarding an extended spell on the sidelines.

A scan yesterday has revealed how the shoulder injury sustained by Doyle has since improved quicker than expected. In the aftermath of the season opener at Colchester, it was thought that Doyle would be out of action for the next three months. Manager Neil McDonald is happy with this news, especially considering they only have one other senior goalkeeper in their ranks,

“Colin’s shoulder has settled down a little bit and it’s not as good as we first thought. There’s a little bit of damage there but hopefully it will settle down. Fingers crossed he could be available in two or three weeks, rather than for the two or three months it could have been.”

Kyle Letheren deputised for Doyle on Thursday night in The Tangerines defeat against Northampton Town. Youngster Myles Boney filled in as the substitute keeper and he has been offered a professional deal recently but is supposedly still mulling over that offer.

After a season to forget last season, Blackpool are now keen on making an immediate return to the second tier of English football under their newly appointed manager. With news that Doyle could be available within the next two or three weeks, it provides a rare but most welcome piece of positive news to come out of Bloomfield Road.

McDonald earlier told the Blackpool Gazette how his side were ‘rubbish’ in their performance against Northampton Town, which saw them crash to a 3-0 defeat. He particular singled out their first half display, which is where all three goals were conceded during a disastrous eight-minute period. On Saturday they entertain a Rochdale side that had more joy in the Capital One Cup midweek when defeating divisional rivals Coventry City on penalties.
