Burnley announce signing of Shrewsbury youngster

Burnley have announced the signing of Shrewsbury youngster Josh Ginnelly on a three-year deal, who joins for an undisclosed fee, as revealed by Burnley’s official club website.

Despite being a youth team player at the Shropshire club, the 18-year-old attracted the attention of a number of clubs, including a host of Championship sides.

Ginnelly didn’t feature in any of Shrewsbury’s pre-season fixtures as he didn’t return for training. The winger made 3 appearances for Town’s first team last season.

Speaking about the deal with the Shropshire Star, Shrews boss Micky Mellon said “I’m glad it’s finally been resolved as it’s been a long and drawn-out process.

“The two clubs have come to an agreement and I wish Josh well at his new club. I hope he goes on to be a huge success at Burnley and shows the potential that he has.”

Town’s executive Matt Williams added to Mellon’s comments by saying “I can only thank Burnley and my counterpart Dave Baldwin for the professional manner in which they have conducted themselves over this.”

Ginnelly will be regarded as one for the future by Burnley boss Sean Dyche, and is expected to go straight into Burnley’s under-21 squad.
