Middlesbrough have £4 million bid for Leicester striker accepted

Middlesbrough have had a £4 million offer for Leicester striker David Nugent accepted, as they look to replace Lee Tomlin who left for Bournemouth last week, according to Gazette Live.

The 30-year-old was not selected in the squad for Leicester’s 4-2 victory over Sunderland on Saturday, and has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power stadium.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka said last week that he was looking to bring in another striker to add support to that department, and Middlesbrough were previously linked with a move for Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn and Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace.

Nugent managed to find the net five times in 32 appearances for the Foxes last season. The season before that, in his last Championship season, the striker was more successful, scoring 22 goals as he fired Leicester to the Premier League.

The Gazette Live says that ‘Aitor Karanka believes powerful Nugent’s strength on the ball, his ability to muscle his way into the box, his hard work, his link up play and his proven record as a goal-getter in this division can add to the skill set and fire-power up front.’
