Adam Pearson claims Leeds side “reminds me so much of 98/99”

Leeds United executive director Adam Pearson has claimed that the current crop of young players at Elland Road “reminds me so much of 98/99”, as highlighted by Inside Futbol.

It has been a summer of change at Elland Road, with a new head coach in the form of Uwe Rosler, numerous backroom staff appointments and seven new faces joining the playing squad. This change, which saw Pearson brought in at Leeds, has made the executive director excited and optimistic for the upcoming season.

Speaking with BBC Radio Leeds, as quoted by Inside Futbol, Pearson said that “The performance against Everton on Saturday showed a lot of bright signs.

“Certainly the head coach and his assistant coaches have made a real impact at Thorp Arch. There seems to be a real sense of unity, discipline and work ethic there which augers well for the future.

“And we’re all very excited now about the season.”

Pearson also drew comparisons between the current squad of young players to that of George Graham and David O’Leary’s side of 1998/1999. “I think a core of young players within the team reminds me so much of 98/99 when George (Graham) and David (O’Leary) brought those players through,” he said.

“If we can build around that core and get injury free, and get a consistent eleven out there, I think we could have a promising season.”

Leeds begin their season at home to Burnley, a side who were recently relegated from the Premier League. Despite this, head coach Uwe Rosler has said that he feels “well-prepared” for the game.
