Grandison signs one-year deal with Shrewsbury

Defender Jermaine Grandison has signed a new one-year deal with Shrewsbury Town, ending an interest in the player from League One rivals Millwall, the club’s official Twitter account has revealed.

The 24-year-old put pen-to-paper on Friday morning meaning he has extended his four-year stay at the club. Grandison was a key part of the Shrewsbury side who secured promotion from League Two last season, making 42 appearances.

The defender told the club’s official website that “It’s finally sorted now, just in time for the season. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s game and hopefully a successful season again.

“On both parts we’ve been having quite a few discussions and we were waiting for the budget to be sorted for me to be able to sign.

“I’ve been here since I was young and hopefully we can have a good season.”

Salop start their season at home to Millwall, a club who expressed an interest in signing Grandison this week, and the Shrewsbury man is confident that the Shropshire club can do well this season.

“I feel ready to go. All of the new lads have bonded and gelled together, so we’re ready to start the season,” he said.

“After last season, we all want to do well again and have a successful season. We’ve had really good players come in and, with the players that were already here, we’ve got a really good chance.

“Everyone’s raring to go and we’re looking forward to showing everyone how good we are.”
