Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is keen on adding another striker to the Middlesbrough squad as they look to seal promotion this season, according to Sky Sports.
Karanka has targeted Blackburn’s Jordan Rhodes in recent weeks but has been left frustrated by Rovers’ refusal to sell the forward.
“Jordan is an amazing player, but Jordan is not the only one on our list,” the Boro boss said.
“We know our problems last season and the previous season and it was that we didn’t score enough goals to get promotion and we need to strengthen our squad with a striker and Jordan is one on the list but we are working in other ways.”
Due to the high valuation of Rhodes, Middlesbrough have turned their attention elsewhere and have targeted Crystal Palace forward Dwight Gayle.
“He (Gayle) is a striker, he scores goals, another one on our list,” states Karanka.
“I like the good players on our list, they are the best, but we have other alternatives, we have other positions so we are working really well.”
The 24-year-old completed the move from League One Peterborough in 2013, and has gone onto make 54 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 18 and assisting 2.
