Humes secures midfielder for Colchester

Tony Humes’ Colchester United FC have made their seventh signing of the summer in the form of Darren Ambrose.

The former Ipswich attacking midfielder started his career with Ipswich before moving to numerous clubs such as Newcastle United, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City.

Born in Harlow, Essex, the England U21 made his professional debut for Ipswich Town against Arsenal on 21st April 2002.

Since his debut he has gone on to have a career during which he has appeared over 300 times for numerous clubs and scored seventy-two times. The experienced player was brought in to assist Porter in guiding the younger players that are breaking into the U’s first team.

The thirty-one year old has been training with the U’s and is therefore expected to be in the team for their Sky Bet League One opener against Blackpool this Saturday.

On joining the Us, he said “I feel as though I’m joining a club on the up. The facilities are fantastic and it’s a young, vibrant team”.

He appeared for the U’s last summer and performed for Ipswich two weeks ago at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
