Millwall centre-back Mark Beevers has been given a confidence boost by boss Neil Harris ahead of their season opener against Shrewsbury on Saturday.

The Lions boss has backed the 24-year-old to carry on performing at left back, in the absence of injured Joe Martin. He said “Mark has played a lot of games there (left back) in the Championship for Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday. He’s a very capable player in that position, he’s got a great left foot and adds some real height to the team at set-pieces in both boxes.”

“Mark playing there is a really good option for us at the moment.”

The 6″4in defender scored the winner in Millwall’s pre-season match against Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage, and Harris believes that Beevers will be a vital player from dead ball situations this season, both attacking and defending.
