Championship Predictions: Week 1

Brentford v Ipswich
Both beaten Play off semi finalists meet at Griffin Park on Saturday looking to go one step further this season. Brentford had a brilliant debut season in The Championship, shocking many teams with they’re quick style of play. 6 new faces in Brentford this season but they haven’t lost any key players such as Andre Gray. Ipswich must be hopeful of doing well this season after keeping main players Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick they certainly have the strike power to do well this season.
Prediction- 1-2

Charlton v QPR
Our first London derby of the season takes place at The Valley. Charlton have brought in 10 new transfers and as far as I can see, not much Championship quality or experience in their new faces. I worry for Charlton, they’re a team that haven’t done much in recent seasons and are an average Championship team, but only being average could see them left behind in coming years. QPR are another the new boys, who I’m extremely worried about. I can see them doing what Leeds, Wigan and Portsmouth have done, spend too much money on players and wages and that could damage them. They need to get rid of they’re big earners and quickly before they lose all there money and maybe administration could be on the cards.
Prediction- 0-0

Hull vs Huddersfield
If you count Hull as Yorkshire, this is our first Yorkshire derby of the season. Hull I think have a good chance of heading straight back to The Premier League this season, having let Tom Ince, James Chester and Robbie Brady leave the KC this summer could maybe see the struggle. However they have new additions such as Dame N’Doye and have bid for Andre Gray and Moses Odubajo. Huddersfield haven’t made the big signings they need to improve in The Championship. After an amazing end of the season where they went on a 6 game unbeaten run meant they finished 16th. They need a big goal scorer to really make an impact on this season, with only a month until the window closes Chris Powell needs to act quickly.
Prediction- 3-1

Rotherham v MK Dons
Even with points deducted for fielding an ineligible player Rotherham still managed to stay in the division by 5 points. They have improved their squad with plenty of Championship experience, including Aidan White and Chris Maguire. However they still lacking in attack, which could see them struggle.  MK Dons were one of the talking points in League 1 last season. There quick passing and high scoring method of football saw them finish 2nd in their league. Having not made many additions I think the players they have are League 1 players, which means they also could struggle this season.
Prediction- 0-0

Sheffield Wednesday v Bristol City
Wednesday finished 13th in The Championship last season, they have made 7 new signings, but again it worries me that there is no Championship experience in that squad. They have the fire power but do they have the defensive qualities to compete for the play offs? Bristol City were the team to talk about in League 1 last season, they owned the league and left everybody in their wake. However I worry that they have a team of League 1 players, and having made no new signings. It’s a big step up from League 1 to The Championship and I’m not sure if they can handle that.
Prediction 2-0

Preston v Middlesborough
Preston should have come second in League 1 last season but a poor end of season meant they had to gain promotion through the play offs. I’m not 100% whether Preston will sink or swim this season. With Simon Grayson on board and Jermaine Beckford and Joe Garner in attack I think they could swim but only if they keep Grayson on board. Boro are last seasons Play Off beaten finalists, who have made good additions to their squad, namely Stuart Downing. However I think Boro could be on their way to mid table with the loss of Patrick Bamford and Jelle Vossen, they could struggle for goals this season.
Prediction- 0-1
