Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough join the race for Palace forward

Middlesbrough join the race for Palace forward

Championship side Middlesbrough have joined the race for Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle, but refuse to pay the £10 million fee put in place by the Premier League outfit, according to the Sun.

The 24-year-old completed the move from League One Peterborough in 2013, and has gone onto make 54 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 18 and assisting 2.

This record has not gone unnoticed, with reports suggesting that Gayle was set to join Fulham on a season-long loan after falling out of favour at Selhurst Park, following the arrival of players such as Patrick Bamford and Connor Wickham.

Middlesbrough have continued to strengthen this summer as they look to seal promotion to the Premier League after losing out in the Play-Offs last season. Forwards Stewart Downing and Diego Fabbrini have both joined in the hope that they can fire Boro up this campaign.

Now it appears that boss Aitor Karanka wants to improve his attacking options with the addition of Gayle, but only if they can get him at a cheaper price.
