Bristol City preparing record bid for Man United youngster

Bristol City are preparing a club-record move for Jesse Lingard, according to the Bristol Post.

Louis Van Gaal is reportedly willing to let the youngster leave Old Trafford and newly-promoted City are keen on signing him.

They could have to pay both a club-record fee of £2.5m and also a huge salary of up to £1m a year to bring the 22-year old to Ashton Gate. It’s a large sum of money for the Championship side but it’s a fee that boss Steve Cotterill is willing to pay.

Bristol City are currently looking to sign players who are young and have Championship experience and with Lingard having featured numerous times at Championship level on various loan spells (and with him being aged just 22), he certainly meets those requirements.

The attacking midfielder has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under boss Louis Van Gaal, despite featuring in the Dutchman’s first Premier League side last year.

He’s been with the Red Devils since 2012 and during that time, he has been sent out on loan to Leicester, Birmingham, Brighton and most recently, Derby.
