Leeds United to be back in The Premier League by 2017

Leeds United management have announced that the club want to be back in the Premier League by the 2017, 13 years after the club were first were relegated from the highest tier of English football. Since then, the club have dropped to the third tier, League One, for the first time in their illustrious history and now find themselves entrenched firmly in the Championship.

An interview with Executive Director Adam Pearson on Sky Sports new for the #92 feature has revealed that Leeds United want to be back in the Premier League by 2017. Pearson said that he expects the club, with the additions that have been made, to be ‘challenging the pack’ in 2015/16. He and owner Massimo Cellino expect the club to be challenging for the playoffs or maybe the automatic promotion positions. Pearson referred to the financial position the club is in, which he described as the best it’s been in since 2004 and the amazing fan base, with the club expecting 30,000 on Saturday for the season opener against Burnley at Elland Road.

Pearson also referenced how the club nearly didn’t sign striker Chris Wood, who Pearson expects to be pivotal this season. Speaking to Sky 92Live, Pearson said,

“We had our targets at the start of the season and when it came to nearly losing Chris, he came up with £3m to get the player and move him up from the midlands. He’s going to be a big signing for us.” Adam Pearson: Sky Sports website; August 4, 2015
