According to the Express and Star this morning, Walsall boss Dean Smith is keen on a deal for free agent Zac Thompson, who was released by Leeds United at the end of the 2014-15 season.
The Saddlers are reportedly in talks with the 22 year-old’s agent but confirmed their are several other offers on the table for the former Everton youngster.
After joining Leeds United in 2011 following his release from the Toffees, Thompson went on to make nine league appearances during his first season with the Whites when he was just 18 years-old.
Sam Byram’s emergence into the first-team limited Thompson’s first team opportunities during the 2012-13 and he was subsequently loaned out to League One side Bury.
Thompson won the Shakers Young Player of the Year award for the nature of his 29 appearances during his spell at Gigg Lane despite the club suffering relegation to League Two.
Thompson was limited to playing in the development squad during the 2014-15 season which led to his release upon the expiration of his contract at the start of summer.
