Burnley announce Tendayi Darikwa signing

Championship side Burnley have announced the signing of Chesterfield’s Tendayi Darikwa on a three-year deal, as revealed by the club’s official website.

Darikwa has attracted the interest of a number of Championship and League One sides this summer, with Leeds, Wigan and Preston amongst those who chased for his signature.

The 23-year-old impressed for the Spireites last season, making 56 appearances in all competitions and was a vital part of the side that lost to Preston North End in the League One Play-Off Semi Final. His performances didn’t go unnoticed at the club, as he won Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at the club’s End of Season Awards.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche spoke about the signing with the club’s official site, he said that “we are delighted to add Tendayi to the squad. He is someone we have had our eye on for a while and after playing against Chesterfield last weekend, his performance confirmed our thoughts and made the decision for us.

“He is definitely one who can push for a place in the team now, but also one for the future because we are confident we can improve him as a player because he has a great desire to learn.”

Darikwa will be looking to push for a place in the Burnley side who travel to Elland Road on Saturday 8th August to face Leeds United in their first game of the Championship season.
