The Whites frustrated in search for wingers

Uwe Rosler has stated recently that wingers now have to be the main priority before the start of the season for the Whites and whether they can sign some before the home game against Burnley remains to be seen.

Frustration has become apparent for the Whites in their pursuit for a winger and it has become a farce that since the transfer window opened in June they have not been able to find a single recruitment that can bring that width they so desperately need. It is an issue that has been raging on for a couple of seasons now that the club can never truly find a natural winger to bring that added attacking philosophy to the side.

How many times do wingers win you game? This is a question that Uwe Rosler and Massimo Cellino need to consider as it could be the difference in so many games from the beginning of season. So many times last season was the side crying out for someone who could grab a match and change it for the better. It could be that the losses of Robert Snodgrass and Max Gradel have never truly been replaced and the club has struggled for it ever since. Adding to the lack of goals and creativity in the side.

The club has spent a significant amount of money on a striker and it is good to see that there is some ambition to better the side and make it stronger but even Chris Wood will be slightly worried about where his supply line will come from. There is no doubt that the central midfielders of Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt and Luke Murphy should be able to supply some balls through the middle of the midfield and create chances but if someone could supply crosses too then it adds more of an option. It may be that the club may persist and give Sam Byram another chance to impress in the wide area as he did when he slotted in that role last season due to a shortage of options at the club. However, that may create another problem regarding positions. The club are short in the right back area and Sam Byram would be more suited to his favourable role.

In some ways, the huge amount spent on Chris Wood is now going to leave the club financially short in the market when competing with other sides for a winger as well. The examples of Bakary Sako, Michail Antonio are a blueprint to show how wingers are such a big commodity in the Championship and how financially they have become so valuable and useful to sides. All match winners are going to be expensive to recruit and if the club find themselves priced out of any significant signings it is hard to see how the club can become promotion contenders.
