Leicester enter race for Chester

Leicester City have reportedly entered the race to sign highly rated Hull City defender James Chester, according to The Yorkshire Post

Chester appeared set to complete an £8 million move to West Brom this morning after photos from The Tigers’ pre-season training camp confirmed the defender’s absence.

But it now appears the Foxes, under new manager Claudio Ranieri have entered the race for 26-year-old Chester.

It remains to be seen whether Steve Bruce and Hull will be willing to sell to Leicester, after Nigel Pearson’s ugly departure from the club to the Foxes.

But with Pearson now gone, Leicester will be confident of striking a deal under the new guidance of Ranieri.

Yesterday’s capture of experienced ex-Newcastle defender Ryan Taylor may open the door for Chester’s departure, who will be eager to remain in the top flight in order to secure a place in Chris Coleman’s Welsh squad for the 2016 tournament in France.

But it appears the defender now has a choice of who he plies his trade with next season: the Foxes, or the Tigers.
