Hull City set to beat Nottingham Forest to signing Ryan Taylor

According to the Nottingham Post this morning, Hull City are on the verge of completing a deal for Nottingham Forest target Ryan Taylor following his release from Newcastle United at the start of the summer.

The 30 year-old has racked up nearly 300 career appearances over a 13 year career since making his debut for then-League 1 outfit Tranmere Rovers back in 2002.

After three years with Rovers, including a season where the center-back netted ten goals, Taylor moved to Wigan in a deal worth around £750,000 but failed to cement a starting place for the Latics in the Premier League.

Over four seasons of top flight football with Wigan Taylor played in just 56 games and was subsequently sold to Newcastle United in 2009.

A former England U21 international, Taylor has struggled with injuries during his time with the Magpies and made just five league appearances during the 2010-11 season and played in just one game during the 2012-13 campaign.

Six years at St James’ Park, which included being a vital part of the team that won promotion from the Championship in 2010, came to an end after Taylor wasn’t offered a new contract by then-boss John Carver.
