QPR in talks with Wigan defender

According to reports today, Championship side QPR are in talks with Wigan defender James Perch.

Wigan have accepted that they are going to lose the versatile defender after their recent relegation to League 1 and QPR are favorites to sign him. Perch is usually deployed at right-back but can play anywhere across the back line and also as a defensive midfielder.

QPR boss Chris Ramsey is understood to be keen to improve his defence following the amount of goals the team conceded last season and believes Perch is one of the players that can do this.

Perch began his career at Nottingham Forest, making 220 appearances and scoring 14 goals before leaving in 2010 to sign for newly-promoted side Newcastle United.  He made 81 appearances at St. James’, scoring only 1 goal.  Perch then signed for Wigan Athletic in 2013 for around £750,000.

At 29 years of age, QPR would be signing an experienced defender with nearly 300 Championship appearances and also lots of Premier League experience.
