Bradford City: Bantams chasing Championship winger

As reported by TWTD, it seems that Bradford City are interested in taking former Ipswich Town winger, Paul Anderson, to Valley Parade.27-year old  Anderson, released by the Tractor Boys at the end of last season, has been training with Scunthorpe United. With no fresh terms available, the former Hull City, Liverpool and Bristol City wide man remains without a club at the moment.

Paul Anderson in numbers – 2014/15 Championship season (per typical 90 minutes)

  • 22.1 completed passes from 31.7 attempts – 70.1% accuracy
  • 2.3 shot assist passes – 7.25% of all passing attempts
  • 0.7 successful dribbles
  • 2.5 losses of possession
  • 2.1 tackles from 3 attempts – 70% successful
  • 2 interceptions of opponent ball

Data derived from WhoScored.com Paul Anderson player profile

If Bradford City are indeed, as they are reputed to be, interested in a deal for Paul Anderson then it would definitely be a player who would add class to what could be a very exciting Bantams team back by vociferous fans. Headline-wise, Anderson scored two goals last term but more importantly he provided seven assists. This is due to the large proportion of shot assist passes that he generates for teammates, these being 7.5% of all attempted passes. Whilst his accuracy is a tad low at 70.1%, the damage he does is through the chances that he presents for others. For a winger, he is also defensively solid, winning 2.1 tackles per 90 (70% accuracy) and making 2 interception, thus disrupting opposition play.

Should Bradford City be in a position to bring in Paul Anderson, I’d say they’d be foolish not to as he would bring an instant element of class to a side that will no doubt wanting to be pushing for promotion in 2015/16.
