No contact made by Boro for Jordan Rhodes

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer has insisted that Middlesbrough have not made contact with the club over striker Jordan Rhodes.

The Scottish forward has been at the centre of transfer speculation over the summer with rumours that cash-strapped Blackburn may be looking to sell their star asset.

Aitor Karanka has long been an admirer of Rhodes and tried to sign the striker on loan in March before the deal was pulled at the last minute by Venky’s.

Boro are desperately searching for a new striker after losing loan pair Jelle Vossen and Patrick Bamford who shined for them in the Championship last season.

Rhodes is now supposedly top of Karanka’s summer wishlist but Bowyer maintains that Middlesbrough have not queried about the 25 year old goal scorer and that any speculation won’t affect the club’s pre-season plans.

He said: “You can’t do anything about it, when there are good players available clubs will be interested and we are no different. We have got some good players here.

“We just have to try and manage it with the situation we are in obviously with Financial Fair Play.”

Jordan Rhodes joined the Lancashire club in August 2012 for a then record club fee of 8 million pounds. He has since gone on to score an impressive 74 goals in 143 games.
