Chesterfield’s Tendayi Darikwa hands in transfer request

Preston and Leeds target, Tendayi Darikwa, has handed in a transfer request, according to reports.

The defender has been tracked by the two clubs for most of the summer and he has now reportedly decided he wants to leave current club Chesterfield.

He was one of the Spireites top players last year, as he featured 56 times and managed to bag himself a goal along the way. His performances during the season – and in the play-offs – clearly caught the eye of PNE and Leeds, who are both now vying for his signature.

Simon Grayson wants Darikwa, who plays as a right-back or as a winger, to move to Deepdale to fix his current full-back problem: Preston have lost several defenders this summer, leaving them weakened in the RB and LB areas.

The same applies to Leeds – they too are on the hunt for another RB or right-winger, with the club also lacking in that area, especially if Sam Byram leaves the club, with several clubs currently interested in the 21-year old.

Darikwa has been at the Proact Stadium since 2010 and he has played close to 150 games for the club during his time there. However, with this news, it appears his time at Chesterfield could soon be up.
