Sheffield Wednesday favourites to land prolific Norwich striker

According to the Scunthorpe Telegraph, Sheffield Wednesday have emerged as favourites to land 27 year-old striker Gary Hooper with several other clubs having been linked with the Englishman.

Hooper has been with Norwich City for the past two seasons but has failed to replicate the goal scoring he had at Celtic prior to his move to Carrow Road – netting 20 goals in 68 games in all competitions for the Canaries.

While with Celtic from 2010 to 2013 Hooper quickly gained a reputation as one of the most prolific strikers in Scottish football and was the clubs top scorer for every season he was there. He also picked up the Golden Boot for his goal scoring exploits during the 2011-12 campaign.

The Essex-born attacker left the Bhoys with an incredible scoring record of 82 goals in 132 games – helping Celtic to win two SPL titles and two Scottish Cup victories.

Over the summer the likes of Sheffield United and Celtic being interested in a deal for the forward, and with the striker coming into the final year of his contract (although Norwich do have a further year option) they could want to recoup some of the £5 million they paid for the striker back in 2013.
