Ipswich Town’s young starlet set to join Portsmouth

According to reports, League Two side Portsmouth are closing in on a deal for Ipswich Town youngster Matthew Clarke with boss Mick McCarthy keen for the 18 year-old to get regular first team football.

The youngster joined Ipswich back in 2013 and made four appearances for the Tractor Boys last season after making his debut in the Football League Cup in August.

Highly rated at Portman Road, Pompey boss Paul Cook has been eager to add quality to his side as they look to mount a push for promotion to League One.

Clarke is a versatile player as although he is naturally a centre-back he can aptly slot in a holding midfielder role in the team.
