Barnsley set to snap up young Blues stopper

The Birmingham Mail are reporting that Barnsley have had a bid accepted for young Birmingham stopper Nick Townsend.

The ‘keeper has had a spell at Lincoln on loan most recently, and has impressed those who have watched him at both Lincoln and Birmingham.

He signed a contract extension just two months ago, so it would be surprising to see the boyhood Blues fan leave, though rumours of a £500,000 bid may have been what has swayed Rowett to look at selling.

Barnsley are looking for a second choice goalkeeper and think young Townsend might be a great fit – however, at just 5’11, there are concerns over his potential in pro football as a keeper.

Blues fans who have followed the academy may be disappointed should Townsend go, but if the money is reinvested in the side, including the signing of Watford playmaker Diego Fabbrini, they may not be so worried.
