According to ESPN today, Fulham are targeting Everton youngster Luke Garbutt with it likely the Toffees will allow the 22 year-old to leave Goodison Park on a loan deal.

The defender has been subject of much transfer speculation this summer with several Championship clubs having been linked but it appears Fulham are now the front runners to secure a deal.

Garbutt is highly rated at Everton but has received limited first team minutes due to the ever-present Leighton Baines at left-back.

Starting his career with Leeds United at the age of just eight, Garbutt stayed with the Whites for eight years before being snapped up by Everton for a £600,000 fee.

Garbutt has made 12 first team appearances for the Toffees since making his debut in the 2012-13 season and has enjoyed loan spells to both Cheltenham Town and Colchester United.

The youngster signed a new five year deal at Goodison Park last month which shows how highly regarded he is with Everton – and this is reciprocated by the England youth setup, with Garbutt having represented the Three Lions at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels.
