Much was made of the fact that Leeds United were short of ideas at the back after Sam Byram was moved up the right flank and Scott Wootton, once the forgotten man of The Whites’ back line, was pressed into emergency service as a right back. Let’s say one thing though, Wootton wasn’t bad at that position, he played as well as could be expected but he was still a squarish peg in a roundish hole. The thing is, Leeds had cover there, former Swiss international Gaetano Berardi could have slotted in but was asked to play right-back due to Charlie Taylor being moved up the left flank and having no experienced cover on that side of the field. What interests me, however, is just how Sam Byram and Gaetano Berardi compare. Yes, we know how good Byram is, he’s reputedly attracting between £5-8m interest from the Premiership. How does Berardi measure up in what he produced last season though?
