5 players to look out for next season at Yeovil Town

Following relegation from League 1 last season, Paul Sturrock has already made his mark in South Somerset, creating a whole new squad. With 11 new arrivals this summer, Sturrock will be hoping he can get the Glovers out of their losing mentality and mount a promotion charge in League 2. Here are 5 players to watch out for as the new look side takes shape.

Kevin Dawson

Having extended his three year stay at the club, Dawson has been at Huish Park since the Glovers unprecedented promotion to the Championship in 2013. He is one of the few surviving players of Sturrock’s mass clear out and after a tough couple of seasons battling injury, Town fans will be hoping he replicates his form of two years ago. The pacy winger is surely a contender for captain and will no doubt add to his four goal tally for the club.

Matt Dolan

Another familiar face for Yeovil Town fans – but this time they will be hoping to see a lot more of former Bradford City midfielder “Matty” Dolan. Having spent 8 games on loan in 2013 and making a substitute appearance on that faithful day at Wembley,he has decided to make the move back to Somerset.  Matt spent last season in and out of the Bantams side and Sturrock has snapped him up at just 22- years – old with a fair amount of league experience. The free – kick expert will be hoping to add to Yeovil’s set piece prowess and add a second promotion with Yeovil Town to his CV.

Jack Compton

Former Hartlepool United winger Jack Compton was a part of the “great escape” last season but will be hoping to battle at the other end of the table this time around. He has been described by his new manager as an “out and out winger” and Sturrock has eluded that he will be responsible for getting countless crosses into the box. This suits the 26 – year – old’s game and he has the potential to become a firm fans favourite.

Ryan Dickson

With so many new faces, it may be easier than people think for Town fans to get to know their new signings. Another familiar face is Ryan Dickson, who spent time on loan at Huish Park in 2012. The left back spent last season at Crawley Town and scooped their player of the year award. Another player that is dangerous with set pieces, Sturrock is familiar with the 28 – year – old having managed him at Plymouth Argyle, His return to Huish Park was not welcome news to fellow relegated side Crawley, so he could be a key player for the 2015/2016 season.

Shaun Jeffers

The last two disastrous seasons for Yeovil Town have both cried out for a goal scorer and Sturrock has recruited in that area. 23 – year – old Shaun Jeffers joins the Glovers fresh from a season at Newport County. With 2 England caps at under – 19 level, the young and hungry forward will be looking to make his mark in League 2. Sturrock has taken somewhat of a gamble on him but he may be the one to watch and Shaun will no doubt be the “poacher” of the new look Glovers side.
