In-demand Championship striker ends speculation by signing new deal

Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy has ended speculation linking him with a move away from the club by signing a new two-year contract.

The 32-year-old had been linked with a number of Ipswich’s Championship rivals, with Middlesbrough, Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday being amongst those looking to draw Murphy away from East Anglia.

Murphy finished as last season’s top scorer in the Championship, hitting the net an impressive 27 times, 6 more than his nearest rival, as well as helping out with six assists. Murphy was also named in the PFA Team of the Year.

The Republic of Ireland international has really found his form in recent times, scoring 40 goals in his last two seasons.

Clubs were preparing bids of £4 million plus for the striker, but those bids will now come to nothing as Murphy has committed his future to Ipswich.
