Reading beat Middlesbrough and Stoke to signing of international keeper

According to Get Reading, the Royals are set to announce the signing of Oman international Ali Al-Habsi today after the goalkeeper impressed during his sessions training with the squad.

The 33 year-old had been trailing with Reading since the start of July and after travelling with the squad to Thailand as part of their pre-season tour, boss Steve Clarke has moved quickly to sign the stopper.

Signed to compete with Jonathon Bond for the No.1 shirt next season, Al-Habsi had attracted interest from both Middlesbrough and the Premier League’s Stoke City.

A vastly experienced keeper in English football, the towering 6’5″ keeper has played over 150 games in England – playing for both Bolton and Wigan.

He had been with the Latics since 2010, winning their Player of the Season award for his performances in 2011, but was released at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.
