Championship club miss out on the signature of German midfielder

Championship side Brentford have missed out on the signing of Stuttgart Kickers attacking midfielder Besar Halimi, after Mainz won the race for his signature, reports Get West London.

The Bees had expressed an interest in the 20-year-old as they look to strengthen their side after missing out on promotion in the play-offs last season, and Halimi was targeted as a player who could do just that. Their search will have to continue elsewhere as the West London club miss out as the midfielder opts to stay in Germany and join the Bundesliga side.

“He has a very big footballing potential that we continue to develop in the next four years and raise to a higher level will.” said FSV manager Christian Heidel.

“We are convinced that he can make the leap into the Bundesliga.”

Brentford have already looked to the lower German leagues for new players, with Akaki Gogia moving to Griffin Park from Hallescher FC. In addition to this, The Bees recently confirmed the signing of Josh McEachran on a four-year deal.
