Blackburn Rovers invite South African international to training camp

Following Blackburn Rovers’ pre-season friendly defeat of Accrington Stanley, the club has reportedly extended the trial of South African international midfielder Dean Furman.

Furman, who has made 25 appearances for Bafana Bafana, scored in Blackburn’s 2-0 victory over Stanley two days ago and will join the team’s training camp in Portugal to persuade manager Gary Bowyer to offer him a contract with the club.

Furman is available on a free transfer after leaving Doncaster Rovers at the end of last season, making him one of the few players Blackburn are capable of signing whilst currently under a transfer embargo.

Having started his career as part of Premier League side Chelsea’s youth setup, Furman moved north of the border to play for Rangers.

He made one solitary league appearance for the Gers and found himself returning down south to play for Oldham Athletic.

He went on to make 131 league appearances for Oldham, notching 8 goals in that time, before being sent initially on-loan to Doncaster.

He signed a two-year deal with Doncaster after his loan spell and made over 50 league appearances for the club in the Championship and League One.

Being one of six players released by the club, Furman has been looking for a new club that preferably plays in the Championship.

Blackburn would be the perfect landing spot for Furman, with the club currently only having 18 recognised first-team players and still looking to push for promotion into the Premier League.

Scoring against Stanley will have helped Furman’s case, but there is still more work for him to do during the club’s training camp in Portugal.

Blackburn fans, would you be happy to see Furman join the club? Are there other targets you’d like to see Blackburn bring in? Let us know in the comments!
