Blades Youth Duo Capture New Contract

According to The72 sources 17-year old midfielder Louis Reed and 18-year old versatility player Dominic Calvert Lewin are set to sign new contracts.

Reed signed for the Blades at the age of 14 and has been at the Blades ever since and is set to extend his stay in Sheffield. Additionally, Calvert Lewin has been with the club since he was 8 years old and will be staying for a further few years.

Reedy was handed a three-year contract last year by then Blades boss Nigel Clough when he was 17. Although still 17 at this moment in time the Blades are set to offer the playmaker a 3-year extension to his current contract, extending his possible stay until 2020. Nigel Clough was quoted last year as saying he would’ve given the Dinnington-born play a longer deal but because the FA states that players under the age of 18 he could only be handed a maximum of three years on a contract. Nigel Adkins is set to take the advice of the former boss and do exactly what Clough would’ve done if he was still in his role at SUFC. This is where the Blades are set to celebrate the occasion because when Louis Reed enjoys his birthday in 12 days time on the 25th July, United supporters will be celebrating the new contract for Reed.

Louis has the record he set last year of being Sheffield United’s youngest ever player at 16 years and 257 days old when he made a substitute debut appearance against Rotherham United on the 8th April in the 2013/14 campaign. From there the England U18 international started to become an integral part of Nigel Clough’s plans. Last season the product of United’s youth team made 32 appearances in a red and white shirt last season, creating four goals for his teammates but he failing to make a contribution in the goal scoring front. Louis is a very solid midfielder with an eye for a pass that could unlock any door and, to say his stature is not one that is associated with League One football, he can stand up for himself in the physical front. The only flaw in the 17-year old’s game is goal scoring ability. Although he is only 17, that is something that needs improvement but he still has bags of time and even more bags of potential.

Coming onto Dominic, although he did sign a new three-year deal in April we understand that he may have been offered an even longer deal at the Football Club. Even though the Reed deal is the definite certainty this deal might have a chance of falling through as Adkins wants to have a look at the utility player before he decides if a longer deal should be given to the Sheffield born lad. DCL made his debut in the final away game of last season against Leyton Orient coming on as a substitute for Che Adams on 66 minutes. After his debut the game before he made his home debut against Chesterfield in the final league game of last season coming on for Michael Doyle after 59 minutes which proved to be his final appearance for the club.

After the information we bought you on Saturday about Italian youngster Diego De Girolamo this backs up the fact that United won’t be letting their youngsters go easily if there is interest in the future.
