Sheffield Wednesday make bold £4 million bid for prolific Ipswich Town striker with Middlesbrough keen

According to the Daily Mail, Sheffield Wednesday have made a £4.25 million bid for Ipswich Town’s striker Daryl Murphy with Middlesbrough also keeping tabs on the 32 year-old.

The bid is expected to be rejected with the Tractor Boys aiming to hold out for at least £5 million for the top scorer in the Championship last season.

Netting an impressive 27 goals, Murphy enjoyed the best season of his career and that form has led to many clubs expressing an interest in the player this summer.

A Republic of Ireland international with 14 caps, the veteran striker has just one year left on his deal at Portman Road and Sheffield Wednesday’s new owner Dejphon Chansiri is keen to build a squad to attain promotion to the Premier League.

Murphy unsurprisingly was selected into the PFA Team of the Year for his performances last season and the former Celtic forward could well be set for a move away fro East Anglia if the price is right.
