Swindon have ‘derisory’ bid for Leeds United target rejected

According to the Coventry Telegraph, Swindon Town have had their bid (which was covered here on The72 yesterday) rejected for Shrewsbury Town’s in-demand defender Connor Goldson.

The 22 year-old enjoyed a stellar season last time out as he won promotion with the Shrews and picked up a place in the PFA League Two Team of the Year, as well as picking up several awards given out by the club.

Shrewsbury’s chief executive Matt Williams spoke to the Coventry Telegraph about the bid from Swindon and why it was rejected so quickly:

“To say that the offer from Swindon was derisory is an understatement, and it was rejected forthwith. I had to check the calendar to see that it wasn’t April Fool’s Day.

“In fact, if it had have been April 1 we’d have all fallen for it because I thought it was someone winding me up. We thank Swindon for their offer and wish them well in their recruitment for the summer and look forward to seeing them in December.”

Leeds have enquired about the young starlet but are yet to follow this up with an offer for the player.
