Derby County keen on a deal for experienced Ipswich Town striker

According to reports today, Derby are interested in signing Ipswich’s David McGoldrick with the striker having just one year left on his deal at Portman Road and apparently being ‘open’ to move away.

A Republic or Ireland international, McGoldrick netted seven goals in 26 games for the Tractor Boys last season in a campaign which saw them reach the play-off semi-finals.

An experienced striker who has played over 300 games in his career, the 27 year-old has struggled throughout his career for goal scoring form – netting over ten goals in just three times in his 12 senior seasons.

McGoldrick has spent the majority of his career with Southampton – spending five years with the Saints – but failed to hold down a regular first team spot until the 2008-09 season when he managed to net 12 goals in their Championship season.

This form led to a move to Nottingham Forest for a £1 million fee, but only scored eight league goals in three seasons at the City Ground.

A loan spell to League One side Coventry rejuvinated McGoldrick as the attacker scored an impressive 16 goals in just 22 games.

Since joining Ipswich in 2013 the forward has a respectable record of 25 goals in 70 games despite struggling with injuries.
