McDonald on the move?

Kevin McDonald has given the strongest hint yet that he could be set for a move away from Wolves.

In an interview with Sky Sports, McDonald admitted that contract talks with the club hadn’t gone the way he had hoped.

He said: “Wolves offered me a contract which didn’t really indicate to me they wanted to keep me, it was just like a basic increase, it wasn’t like they were pushing to keep me, fighting to keep me, that’s the way it felt.

We said we wouldn’t be signing that contract. Negotiations are hopefully going to be ongoing.”

McDonald admitted however that he would stay with Wolves if the right contract was offered to him – but so far that offer hasn’t been put on the table.

The Scottish midfielder has been the subject of strong interest from Fulham, who have had two bids rejected for the Molineux man.

However McDonald said that he was left in the dark regarding the interest from Fulham, as he wasn’t told about the two bids that were put in for him by Kit Symons’ side.

McDonald went on to say this about the London side and his situation at Wolves:

“Fulham are a huge club, and obviously I knew the interest was there, but I didn’t think much was going to come of it until the bids came in. At the end of the day when you are coming into the last year you have to weigh up all your options. You don’t want to be going into your last year – it’s very unsettling, you don’t know exactly what’s going on, to be honest with you.”

Wolves have already acquired the services of Conor Coady from Huddersfield and Jed Wallace from Portsmouth this summer – two midfielders who will almost certainly look to challenge McDonald for his place in the team.

Jack Price has also recently signed a contract extension to keep him at the club for another three years meaning there is a lot of competition in the midfield area.

With the squad currently in France on a pre-season tour, everybody’s eyes will be on McDonald as fans will look to see whether he is offered that contract he desperately wants.

Nevertheless, if the terms of the contract aren’t up to McDonald’s liking, a move away from Wolves could be the midfielder’s only option.
