Brighton sign Finnish international

Brighton & Hove Albion have today completed the signing of Finnish international goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa.

The player, who has won 24 caps for Finland, was a free agent after leaving his club VVV-Venlo in Holland at the end of last season.  Maenpaa won the player of the season award at VVV-Venlo in the 2013-14 season.

Brighton were in the market for another goalkeeper in order to provide competition to currrent stoppers David Stockdale and Casper Ankergren, according to boss Chris Hughton.  Now all three goalkeepers will compete for the number one spot.

The keeper is Brighton’s fourth signing of the summer, having already completed deals for Liam Rosenior and strikers Tomer Hemed and Daniel Akindayini.  This suggests a different look for the Brighton team next season, after a disappointing last campaign finishing near the foot of the table.
