Reports today from the Express and Star have suggested that Wolves have made a bid for Cardiff’s want-away striker Adam le Fondre with the Bluebirds looking to trim their squad ahead of the new season.
The 28 year-old was rejuvenated in the second half of last season when he went on a loan spell to Bolton and managed to net eight goals in 17 games – compared to just thee goals in 21 games in the first half of the campaign with Cardiff.
A diminutive forward standing at just 5’9″, le Fondre (or Alf as he’s affectionately known) started his career with then-League One side Stockport County and spent three years with the Hatters before finding impressive goal scoring form with Rochdale.
Netting 16 goals during the 2007-08 campaign, and then scoring 18 in the 2008-09 season, fellow League Two side Rotherham snapped up the striker and le Fondre continued his impressive scoring form.
30 goals during the 2009-10 season, which landed him a place in the Football League Two Team of the Year, was followed up by 24 the next season – form which alerted clubs from higher up the footballing pyramid and it was Reading who won the race for his signature.
Moving to the Madjeski for around £350,000, le Fondre quickly adapted to life in the Championship and scored 12 game in a promotion winning season for the Royals – giving the Manchester-born forward his first taste of Premier League football.
Despite Reading being relegated the first season after their promotion, le Fondre was a bright spark for the Royals as he netted 12 goals and won a Player of the Month award.
The 2013-14 season was again a fruitful one for the attacker as he netted a further 15 goals, leading Cardiff to make a move and bring the striker to Wales.
