Newcastle winger to choose between Cardiff and Wolves

Newcastle winger Sammy Ameobi will make a decision this week whether to join Cardiff or Wolves on a season-long loan deal.

New Newcastle boss Steve McClaren has permitted Ameobi to join a Championship side on loan for the season, as long as he signs a new contract at St James’ Park, expected to happen early next week.

Kenny Jackett was the first to contact Newcastle over taking Ameobi for the season, seeing him as the perfect replacement for Bakary Sako, who has recently left Molineux following the end of his contract.  However Cardiff boss Russell Slade is also keen on the player, who played 27 times for The Magpies last season, due to rumours of Hull preparing a bid for Cardiff winger Peter Whittingham.

Ameobi had a loan spell in the Championship in the 2013-14 season when he played for Middlesbrough, scoring on his debut against Cardiff City.

Whoever lands Sammy Ameobi will have acquired a player hungry for first-team football after starting only 21 Premier League games in 4 years for Newcastle.
