Derby County after former Leeds and Newcastle target

Reported in the Derby Telegraph, Derby County won’t give up on securing the signature of Burnley defender, Jason Shackell.

If Shackell does sign, he will become The Rams’ seventh signing of the season.

Coming through the Norwich City youth academy, he made his debut for the club in April 2003 against Derby. He made 119 league appearances for Norwich before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers for £1m

His spell at Wolves wasn’t amazing, only making 12 appearances and going back out on loan to Norwich and then to South Yorkshire to play for Doncaster Rovers. Staying in South Yorkshire, he signed for Barnsley on a permanent basis. He fitted in perfectly and became club captain in a matter of months. He won player of the year at the end of the 2010/11 season and bids were flying in for the centre back. He finally made the move to Derby for around £750k.

His time a Derby was brief and he only spent one season there before he moved to Burnley. Shackell finally settled with a club and has spent the last 3 seasons with Burnley. Last season he featured in every one of Burnley’s Premier League games.

An important part of the last few years at Burnley, it will take a big offer to bring him back to Derby, but one Paul Clement will be willing to pay.
