Leeds’ Icelandic midfield target’s move to Torino set to collapse

Leeds United could re-kindle their interest in Pescara and Iceland midfielder Birkir Bjarnason after his move to Serie A side Torino looks set to collapse, as reported by La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Whites looked at the attacking midfielder last month, but missed out on his signature as the player opted to sign for Torino instead. Now that move looks to be off and Leeds could be in with another chance to sign the 27-year-old.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport claims that Bjarnason was set for a £700,000 move to Torino this month and the deal looked set for completion. However the stumbling block was at the personal terms, where Bjarnason and his agent demanded €500,000 per year as opposed to the €450,000 that Torino were offering.

Leeds are in the market for a central midfielder and Bjarnason can play this position, he can also step into the left wing role which is another position that the Elland Road club are looking to fill.

Head Coach Uwe Rosler previously worked with the Icelandic international at Norwegian club Viking and is said to be a big fan of the player, the news of this move falling through will surely capture the attention of both Rosler and Leeds owner Massimo Cellino.
