Boro poised to sign Bolton defender

It is to be believed that Middlesbrough are about to sign Alex Baptiste, subject to a medical.

The 29 year old will become Aitor Karanka’s first signing of the summer.

He began his career at Mansfield Town where he signed a professional contract and spent 6 years with the club making 174 league appearances scoring 5 goals. In this time he also enjoyed loan spells at Tamworth and Burton Albion.

He moved to Blackpool in July 2008. Arguably, the best part of his career. He spent 1 season in the Premier League and getting himself one goal in the first game of the season against Wigan Athletic.

He signed for Bolton on a free in 2013 and struggled to break into the first team after competition for a place in the side was too much for him and he made a loan move to Blackburn last season. He played 32 games for Rovers and scored 2 goals.

Boro are in need of a centre-back after Tomas Kalas left to go back to Chelsea. This is a much needed move for Baptiste so he can get back on track and move on to possibly a return to the Premier League if Boro can have a season just like they did last year.
