Is Chris Wood the missing jigsaw piece at Elland Road?

Chris Wood is the new name at Elland Road, having signed on Wednesday fans are already expecting a lot from Wood. A full New Zealand International and bringing with him Premier League experience, and a hefty price tag of 2 million pounds means he will need to deliver for the Mighty Whites.

Great strikers are something that over the years Leeds United have prided themselves on.  With players like John Charles, Allan Clarke, Robbie Fowler, Mark Viduka and Jermaine Beckford having graced Elland Road previously the position of striker is one where Leeds fans expect greatness. After Ross McCormack was sold for 11 millions pounds it left the club without a recognised goal scorer. In came Mirco Antenucci (10 goals) Souleymane Doukara (7 goals) Adryan (0 goals) Edger Cani (0 goals) Brian Montenegro (0 goals) Nicky Ajose (0 goals, loaned out for most of the season at Crewe) Billy Sharp (5 Goals) and already at the club Steve Morison (2 goals). I’m sure you’ve got the picture. McCormack scored 29 goals in the 2013/14 season and in 2014/15 8 strikers scored 24.

The answer could come in the shape of Chris Wood. He’s a big, strong centre forward with an eye for goal. He has international caps and goals as well as Premier League experience. In my opinion he could be our most important signing. He’s proven himself at championship level, helping Ipswich reach the play off final last season before returning the leicester to help the avoid relegation.

We will have to wait and see if he’s given the opportunity to shine in West Yorkshire but honestly I think he must be given it. We must admit that none of the new strikers, or the ones left the club last season really proved themselves and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw many of them leave in the summer, and honestly its good riddance to the majority. However Wood, given the right chance could be the missing piece to really help Leeds kick on into next season.
