Notts County in pole position to sign striker

Notts County are currently leading the race to sign Jon Stead, according to the Nottingham Post.

The striker is currently a free agent, after being released by Huddersfield. He spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Bradford, where he impressed many with some fantastic performances.

He has been a wanted man since his release and a number of clubs have all been linked with moves for the 32-year old. It is Notts County who are now leading the race to sign him and a deal is believed to be close.

The Magpies chairman, Ray Trew, has given the all clear to approach Stead and the player has now held talks with the club over a potential move to Meadow Lane.

It’s part of the club’s plan to try and bounce straight back up to League 1, after the club suffered relegation from the third tier of English football in the last campaign.

If Stead does make the move to County, it could be quite a coup for the club and it would would certainly show their ambition of gaining promotion at the first time of asking in League 2.
