Gills sign ex Swansea City frontman

Gillingham have completed the signing of ex Swansea City and Cliftonville striker Rory Donnelly on a two-year deal following his release from The Swans.

Donnelly, who has an U21 cap for Northern Ireland to his name, spent the second half of the 2014/15 season on loan at Tranmere where he won League Two player of the month for January after netting 3 goals in his first month at the club and impressed throughout his stay. However, it wasn’t enough to earn him a contract extension with Swansea and he was ultimately released allowing Gills boss Justin Edinburgh to swoop in and seal a deal.

Justin told the Gills website that Rory is a player he has “had is eye on for a while” and that he believes Gills have “pulled off a very good signing” in Rory who was once being tracked by the likes of Arsenal and Everton when starring for Cliftonville.

Edinburgh will be undoubtedly delighted with this coup so early on in the transfer window and can now set his sights on other targets ahead of the new campaign.
